
Jazmine, a Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. When she was five Her father was appointed as City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into the mansion's historical building. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan was a contralto in the children's choir and then, a few more years later she joined in the adults ' choir. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She recalls that she was eleven when someone wanted her to sing as a soloist in church. However, she was not quite ready to go. "Then McDonald's offered a competition with children of major cities. In the end, I got an opportunity to sing What God Allows on It's Showtime Apollo. My fans were very enthusiastic." Stevie Wonder sang her part during his 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. In the age group of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. They recorded an whole album at Jive Records, however it didn't get made available for release. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott she produced a number of the tracks from her debut, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
